【摘要】:TheneedforstandardsregardingTEMPshasalsopromptedaneedfordefinitions.ThisterminologysetsforthdefinitionsofthemostcommonlyusedtermsandspecifiestherelationshipamongthesciencesandcomponentsappliedintissueengineeringtodevelopTEMPs.UseofthesetermsandanunderstandingoftheserelationshipswillunifytheASTMTEMPsstandardswithacommonlanguagesuchthattheusersofthesestandardscanunderstandandinterpretthestandardsmoreprecisely.TermsspecifictoaTEMPstandardwillalsobedefinedwithintherespectivestandardasappropriate.DefiningTerms8212;TermsaredefinedwithabroadscopetoencompassthesenewproductsknownasTEMPs.Forinstance,thedefinitionforsomaticcelltherapyasstatedinthex201C;GuidanceforHumanSomaticCellTherapyandGeneTherapyx201D;(4)isrecognizedinthisterminology.However,forthepurposesofTEMPsthatcontaincells,wehaveaddedthedefinitionofx201C;cellx201D;whichismuchbroaderandnotlimitedtotheuseoflivingcells.ClinicalEffectsofTEMPs8212;TheusersofthisterminologyshouldnotethattermsusedregardingtheclinicaleffectsofTEMPs,forinstance,x201C;modifyormodificationx201D;ofthepatient''scondition,mayalsobeinterpretedtox201C;enhance,augment,transform,alter,improve,orsupplement.x201D;Similarly,x201C;repairx201D;mayalsoservetomeanx201C;restore.x201D;ThediagraminFig.1showstherelationshipsofcomponentsofTEMPsandofthefieldsofscience(forexample,technologiesandprinciples)usedintissueengineeringtocreateTEMPs.CertainTEMPsmaybetissueengineeredorproducedinvitrobyusingspecificcomponentsandsciencestocreateanoff-the-shelfTEMPfortheusers.OtherTEMPsmaybydesignrequiretheuserstoplacethecomponentsinsidethepatient,(thatis,invivo)torelyuponthepatient''sregenerativepotentialtoachievetheproduct''sprimaryintendedpurpose.TheexpectationofaTEMPusedfortherapeuticclinicalapplicationsistohaveatherapeuticeffect,specificallytorepair,modifyorregeneratetherecipient''scells,tissues,andorgansortheirstructureandfunction.SuchaTEMPmaybeusedforhumanandnon-humanapplications.Inotherapplications,aTEMPmaybeusedindiagnosticclinicalapplications,orboth,toachieveaninvestigativeoutcomeofthefunctionofthecells,tissues,andorgans.1.1ThisterminologydefinesbasictermsandpresentstherelationshipsofthescientificfieldsrelatedtoTissueEngineeredMedicalProducts(TEMPs).CommitteeF04hasdefinedthesetermsforthespecificpurposeofunifyingthelanguageusedinstandardsforTEMPs.1.2ThetermsandrelationshipsdefinedherearelimitedtoTEMPs.TheydonotapplytoanymedicalproductsofhumanoriginregulatedbytheU.S.FoodandDrugAdministrationunder21CFRParts16and1270and21CFRParts207,807,and1271.1.3ThetermsandnomenclaturepresentedinthisstandardareforthespecificpurposesofunifyingthelanguageusedinTEMPstandardsandarenotintendedforlabelingofregulatedmedicalproducts.1.4Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetycon......
