【摘要】:Avarietyofmetalscanbeelectrodepositedonplasticsfordecorativeorengineeringpurposes.Themostwidelyusedcoatingconsistsofthreelayersx2014;copperplusnickelpluschromiumx2014;fordecorativeapplications.However,brass,silver,tin,lead,cadmium,zinc,gold,othermetals,andcombinationsoftheseareusedforspecialpurposes.Thekeytoproducingelectroplatedplasticsofhighqualityliesinthecaretakeninpreparingplasticsforelectroplating.Theinformationcontainedinthispracticeisusefulincontrollingprocessesforthepreparationofplasticsforelectroplating.1.1Thispracticeisaguidetothesurfacepreparationofplasticmaterialsfordecorativeandfunctionalelectroplating,wherethesequenceofchemicaltreatmentsmayinclude:cleaning,conditioning,etching,neutralizing,catalyzing,accelerating,andautocatalyticmetaldeposition.Surfacepreparationalsoincludeselectrodepositionofmetallicstrikecoatingsimmediatelyafterautocatalyticmetaldeposition.Thesetreatmentsresultinthedepositionofthinconductivemetalfilmsonthesurfaceofmolded-plasticmaterials,andaredescribedinthispractice.1.2Oncemolded-plasticsmaterialshavebeenmadeconductive,theymaybeelectroplatedwithametalorcombinationofmetalsinconventionalelectroplatingsolutions.Theelectroplatingsolutionsandtheirusearebeyondthescopeofthispractice.1.3ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly.1.4Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.(SeeSection4.)
